Sixty-three years ago, the club secured its first honours in the competition, in which it is currently the dominant force with 35 titles to its name.
On 19 May 1957, Real Madrid was crowned the first champions of the basketball league. The maiden edition of the competition was fiercely contested and was decided in the last round of matches, when our team headed to Barcelona with the title on the line. The madriditas were downed 60-50 but claimed the title thanks to the basket average following the win on its own court in the first half of the season (73-55).
That league season featured six teams and Real Madrid finished top of the standings with a record of seven wins and three draws. Ignacio Pinedo was the coach and Alfonso Martínez was the top points scorer in the league. Sixty-three years on from that success, Real Madrid dominates the competition with 35 titles to its name.
