Sixteen years have passed since the club's basketball team secured its 16th league crown. On 25 April 1974, Real Madrid lifted the title after beating Baskonia on its floor (120-62). This triumph saw the Whites, coached by Pedro Ferrándiz, cement their domination of a competition in which they had now clinched a seventh straight title (the team strung together 10 title successes between 1968 and 1977).

In a perfect season in which they also tasted glory in the European Cup and the Copa del Rey, the madridistas were far and away the dominant force in a league season in which they went unbeaten (W27, D1). Indeed, the Whites were mathematically crowned champions with four games remaining. In the individual stakes, Szczerbiak starred as he topped the team's scoring charts with 818 points.
