Real Madrid beat Olimpia de Asunción and won the world championship in 2002.
Real Madrid won their third Intercontinental Cup on 3 December 2002. With this triumph, the Whites won their third title in the Centennial year after the ninth European Cup and first European Super Cup. Ronaldo, who was voted man of the match, put the madridistas ahead with his goal in the 14th minute.
 
Guti was the other goal scorer in Yokohama, Japan, thanks to a header in the closing minutes. With a 2-0 win over Paraguay's Olimpia de Asunción, Real Madrid won the third of their seven world championship titles.
