Today is the 30th anniversary of the farewell to one of the Real Madrid legends. On 3 December 1989, Fernando Martín died in a traffic accident on his way to the Palacio de los Deportes to watch the match between Real Madrid and CAI Zaragoza. He was 27 years old but his name was already in the history of Real Madrid.
 
Idol for the madridista fans thanks to his personality, courage, leadership on the field and dominion of the inner game, with the Whites he won 4 leagues, 3 Copas del Rey, 2 Recopas, 1 Korac Cup, 1 World Championship of Clubs and 1 Spanish Super Cup. As a tribute, the club retired his number 10 jersey.

In addition to a brilliant career at Real Madrid, Fernando Martín was a pioneer of national basketball. In 1986 he became the first Spanish player to play in the NBA. He also won a silver medal at the 1983 European Championship and another at the 1984 Olympic Games with the Spanish national team.
