Courtois: "We'll focus on the first-half performance, which was really good"

"The final result suggests the game was closer than it really was", declared Lucas Vázquez.
Thibaut Courtois and Lucas Vázquez spoke to the media in the aftermath of Real Madrid's 3-2 triumph over Levante in the sides' LaLiga Matchday 4 meeting. The goalkeeper reflected on the win in the following terms: “The first half was fantastic and we dominated the game. We played some great stuff and just needed to carry on in the same vein. At half-time we were thinking about keeping a clean sheet. They made it 3-1, then 3-2 and for the last 15 minutes we had to hang on to the three points”.

“We could have continued playing as we had in the first half and gone on to win 5-0 or 6-0, but that’s football. Levante changed their shape and made life a bit more difficult for us. We weren’t thinking about the Champions League, we’re excited but that was nothing to do with it. Perhaps it was more a case of the traveling taking its toll over the international break. We’re all in good shape. We’ll focus on the first-half performance and take that form into Wednesday’s game, while assessing the second half in order to learn from it”.

Key save
"They've got a lot of quality in attacking areas, as they showed with their second goal, which involved an excellent cross to make it 3-2. I was expecting a powerful header and pulled off a really good save to rescue the team. When it comes to making saves, positioning and concentration are very important. I'm here to do my job and help the team".

Lucas Vázquez: "We played with real intensity"
"The team came out all guns blazing. We got ourselves in front and that's what we were looking to do. The final result suggests the game was closer than it really was. They got two goals in the second half, but we could have scored more because we had a fair few chances. We have to continue on in this vein".

"The important thing is that the team enjoys itself out on the pitch. We played with real intensity, both in defence and attack, and we've got to show that we can keep that up for as many minutes as possible. We enjoy playing every three days and go out to win every time we take to the pitch".
