“I’m very happy with the goals but the most important thing is the win”, said the Frenchman.
Karim Benzema continues to extend his spectacular goal-scoring run and has scored in the last five games for Real Madrid. The Frenchman has bagged the last eight goals that the team has scored in LaLiga, a club record. No other Real Madrid player had scored has many goals consecutively in the domestic competition. The previous record was held by Puskas, who got seven goals in the 1961/62 league season.
After the hat-trick against Athletic, the forward expressed his satisfaction: "I’m very happy with the goals but the most important thing is to get the three points. We play for the best team in the world and we do it to win titles. It’s not been a great season, it’s difficult, but we will continue until the end and we will try to win the remaining matches. It was an important win against a strong team. We had a great second half, scoring goals and not conceding".
"I'm here to do my bit for the team. Being a striker involves a lot of things, not only scoring goals. I operate as the No.9 at Real Madrid and today I played in that position because that was the system we used, but I don't mind if there's another striker alongside me".

Purple patch
This record-breaking goalscoring streak began against Huesca at the Bernabéu, when he scored a stunner to hand the madridistas a 3-2 win. Next up, he netted the team's goal at Mestalla and then bagged a brace in the home win over Éibar. He also struck the madridista's goal at Butarque, before helping himself to a hat-trick against Athletic.
