- 2 Division B Group I
- Matchday 34
After observing a minute's silence in memory of Agustín Herrerín and Alberto Baixeras, Castilla quickly sprung in to life as they looked to take the game to their opposition early on. The Whites dominated the opening exchanges, winning the ball back high up and creating chances. Dani Gómez raced through one-on-one but his shot flew just wide of the goal, before Deportivo Fabril responded in almost identical fashion. Martín and Cristo then tested the visiting goalkeeper with vicious strikes and Fidalgo just failed to finish a fine move with a first-time effort on 37’.
All 22 players were glad of the half-time break as the rain continued to pour down on to the Di Stéfano pitch throughout the first period. As the rains subsided though, the goal finally arrived. Dani Gómez pounced on a corner swung in by Martín to break the deadlock (53’). The visitors refused to give in, throwing men forward and beginning to test Luca. With 71 on the clock, a Fidalgo header struck the bar, before De Frutos failed to kill the game off when left alone up against the keeper. Castilla head into the Easter weekend with the job done and must now wait until next weekend to face San Sebastián de los Reyes (Sunday 28, 12:00pm).
