The striker, who is now third in the list of foreigner players to have played the most matches, has netted the first Real Madrid goal seven times this season.
Karim Benzema is having a great season on a goal scoring level, contributing crucial goals for Real Madrid. The striker has already bagged 12 goals this campaign and seven of them have been Real Madrid’s first goal of the match. He’s done this more than any other player in the squad, ahead of Bale with four.
Benzema scored Real Madrid's first goal this season in the European Super Cup against Atlético. Then, he also opened the scoring for the Whites in the two Champions League games against Viktoria Plzen, in the Copa del Rey against Melilla, in the LaLiga trip to Celta, in the last match at the Santiago Bernabéu against Rayo and against Villarreal in the first match of 2019.
With his goal at the Estadio de la Cerámica, Benzema also increased his presence in the list of all-time appearance makers amongst foreign players for Real Madrid. With 439 games, the Frenchman overtook Cristiano Ronaldo (438) and is in third place behind Marcelo (469) and Roberto Carlos (527).
