History is made as the football and basketball teams both clinch European Cups in the same season

Both teams posed together during the champions' party at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Real Madrid were crowned European champions at the Olimpiyskiy Stadium in Kiev and broke another record in the process: they became the first ever club capable of reigning over the Old Continent in both football and basketball. After beating Liverpool, the Whites lifted La Decimotercera and joined Pablo Laso's Real Madrid basketball team, who won the Euroleague in Belgrade just last week.

We're witnessing an unprecedented feat in sporting history. It's an achievement that Real Madrid have already come close to on three occasions over their 116 years. Last time came in 2013/14, when the football team won La Décima against Atlético in Lisbon, but the basketball team lost the final to Maccabi. Previously, in 1964, the opposite had occurred: the basketball team lifted their first European Cup against Spartak Brno while the football team lost out to Inter Milan. The first near miss came in the 1961/62 campaign, when both sides made it to their respective finals against Benfica and Dynamo Tbilisi, but they both came away empty handed.
