The forward scored in the first minute of the derby at the Vicente Calderón in 2008/2009.
It's derby week, and that means the star of Historic Goals this time around is Ruud Van Nistelrooy. The forward came to Real Madrid from Manchester United in the summer of 2006. He was a natural goal-scorer, a lethal finisher with his head and both feet. He left his mark on the Bernabéu with a range of goals during his four seasons representing the club.

The first derby of the 2008/2009 campaign took place at the Vicente Calderón on LaLiga match day seven. The Whites went ahead just seconds into the game, after Marcelo started the move with a throw-in, sending the ball to the feet of Van Nistelrooy. He took a touch, turned and struck a feirce shot straight into the back of the rojiblanca net. The goal was the opener in a game which finished with a 1-2 victory for Real Madrid.
Van Nistelrooy netted 64 goals in 96 games as a madridista. He excelled from his first season for the Whites, capturing the Pichichi Trophy (2006/2007). From a collective point of view, he picked up 2 LaLigas titles and 1 Spanish Super Cup.
