Getafe - Real Madrid

Marcelo: “We know what Cristiano brings to Madrid"

NEWS | 14/10/2017

“It was a question of when we would get the goal, it shouldn't have been such a hard-fought win”, said Lucas Vázquez.
Marcelo spoke to the media following the win over Getafe and he praised the team's performance at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez: “It's a difficult place to come, everyone has that extra motivation when they're playing against Madrid. We conceded a goal, I don't know if it was off-side or not but that doesn't bother me. We did a great job, we were able to manage the game well after scoring and we ended up winning it”.

“We know what Cristiano brings to Madrid. He deserves a lot of credit for all he's done at Madrid and we know that when he has to show up, he does so. That happens in football, I couldn't tell you why. We're trying to improve with every game, trying to cut the gap to first place and continue fighting for all the points available”.

The Getafe pitch
"It doesn't matter, that's not the most important thing. Every team play as they need to play. We try to adapt to the pitch at every ground, it's no problem".

Lucas Vázquez: "We couldn't afford to drop points"
“It was a question of when the goal would come, the grass was long and the pitch was dry and it didn't help us. It was a difficult match, they made life hard for us. The team did a great job, it shouldn't have been such a hard-fought victory. The three points were crucial for us, we couldn't afford to drop any today”.

Llorente: "We were patient and in the end Cristiano stepped up to win it 1-2".

“Sergio (Ramos) was pretty sick overnight, he set an example as captain playing the full 90 minutes. It's a pleasure to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, it was a matter of time before he got his goal and he's very happy. He sealed the three points”.

Marcos Llorente: “We achieved our goal”
“We go away with positive sensations, our goal was to get the three points and we managed that. Now we're already thinking about the next game. Their goal was a bit unexpected, but we were patient and in the end the chances started to come and Cristiano stepped up to make it 1-2”.

“The players were tired from the midweek games and lots of travelling, and we were unable to train together all week. Coming back is tough, but we worked hard to come through and today we got the result we wanted”.
95% pass accuracy
“That’s what the coach wants from me, to give the ball away as little as possible and that’s what my position is all about. I’m happy to be able to play 90 minutes and hopefully there will be more to come”.
13 consecutive away wins

“It comes down to the team’s day-to-day work. This squad can achieve great things and we're working hard to do just that”.
