Real Madrid were unable to pick up the three points at Montilivi against Girona who came back after Isco opened the scoring. The move started in the visitors’ penalty area after a shot from Maffeo struck the post in the 12th minute, a brilliant counterattack was then set up which ended with Cristiano Ronaldo cutting in and striking well from the edge of the area. The goalkeeper parried the initial effort but Isco was on hand to turn the ball home and give the Whites the lead.
The goal didn’t do much to change the flow of the game as it remained end-to-end with both teams creating chances. The Cristiano Ronaldo-Benzema partnership generated two clear opportunities for Real Madrid. With 26 minutes on the clock, the Frenchman crossed from the right wing with Portuguese forward’s shot from the penalty spot ending up in the hands of Bono. Five minutes later and the roles were reversed. Cristiano played in Benzema who cut the ball back, taking out two defenders before shooting over with the left foot.

Girona were far from beaten, and had a great chance just minutes before the first half ended. Aday Benítez crossed in from the left for Portu to smash a header against the post only to see the follow up go wide. Real Madrid’s response came after the break. Isco drove a cross in on 50 minutes, the home defender stopped it before Benzema tried a backheal which Aday and the goalkeeper Bono stopped between them.

Home reaction
The home side were on top and on 54 minutes Stuani levelled with some great personal skill. The Whites needed to start from scratch, but a few minutes later, things went from bad to worse as Girona made it 2-1. Maffeo rifled in a shot from within the box and Portu was able to convert it, beating Casilla. Real Madrid were looking for the come back until the very end, and Asensio had the chance in the 84th but Bono was on hand to make the save. Real Madrid now have to turn their attentions to Wednesday, as Tottenham lie in wait.
