They also boast the highest combined number of fans across the three main social media platforms of any sporting institution in the world, with a total of 182 million.
Real Madrid have become the first brand and sporting institution in the world to eclipse 100 million followers on Facebook, 50 million on Instagram and 25 million on Twitter for their main accounts. The total number of followers for the Real Madrid brand has hit 182 million across these three social media platforms, a figure unmatched by any other brand or sports club at this time. This number rises to more than 280 million fans if we include the total of the Football, Basketball and La Fábrica accounts.

The benchmark figure on Facebook currently sits at 105 million fans, having become the first ever brand to surpass 100 million on the platform. Growth on Instagram has hit the 52 million mark, while the main Twitter account has recently made it to 25 million, a breakdown which puts the club in an unrivalled position in social media terms.

These figures ensure the club standout from its nearest competitors, such as FC Barcelona, the NBA and Manchester United. Not only is the club leading the way in terms of audience, but it's also worth noting the consistency of fans' interest in Real Madrid posts. Data shows a 50% difference over the nearest competitor, FC Barcelona, as far as engagement is concerned.

During the 2015-2016 season, Real Madrid enjoyed 1.2 billion video views, while the 2016-2017 campaign saw that figure rise above 2 billion views across the three platforms, just another reflection of the madridista dominance of social networking channels.

This milestone is yet another example of Real Madrid's extraordinary social impact and their leadership both on the pitch and in the online world.
