Carvajal: "We’re Real Madrid and we’ll not take chances with the outcome of the first leg"

NEWS | 15/08/2017

“Winning at the Camp Nou was an important step towards this Super Cup”, said the defender.
Carvajal spoke to the media before the second leg of the Spanish Super Cup: "We’re playing the second leg tomorrow and we’ll go out to win it. We’re Real Madrid and we’ll not take chances with the outcome of the first leg".

"Winning at the Camp Nou was an important step towards this Super Cup, on top of that it’s always very important to win at the home of our biggest rival and it’s a big boost for us too. Our goal is to win titles. Last year we didn’t beat them and won the league".

Cristiano Ronaldo’s suspension
"It's excessive. I don’t think Cristiano Ronaldo wants to undermine the referee and it’s a frustrating situation in which he was unfairly sent off. Hopefully they will withdraw the suspension. I don’t know what goes off in the referees’ head, but I reiterate that it’s excessive and even more so putting it in the report so that he got more games. We’re all affected by the suspension, he’s a key player for us".

We’re all pulling in the same direction and we feel important.

"The secret of this club is a combination of everything. We’re all pulling in the same direction and we feel important. The coach manages the team in a very special way and everyone in this team has a lot of quality".

The refereeing
"We can’t know what the referees are thinking. They want to do their best, they are human and they make mistakes. We concentrate on playing".

Best form of his career?
"I'm very proud to be part of the history of this club and I'm at a stage in my career where I feel the most mature. I'm no longer just the academy graduate and I'm improving and winning my place in the national team. I want to seize the moment and keep improving to win titles".

Luis Suárez
"He’s a great player and a great striker. In the Clásicos the pulsations are going at 200% but we all know that it stays on the pitch. We're all friends from the same profession and we’re all people. It’s down to the official committees to assess whether to punish someone for diving to win a penalty or not. The images are clear and things like that decide knockouts, games and titles. It’s rare that down to mistakes, a team misses out on the chance to win".

The absence of Neymar
"He’s a world-class player. I've marked him for a long time, but last year they beat us at the Bernabéu without him. We focus on beating Barcelona whoever plays".
