Real Madrid, who are still level on points with Barcelona at the top of the league table, had to win to have their fate in their own hands in the fight for the league title. The Whites did not slip up in their last game of the season at the Bernabéu and thrashed Sevilla to record three important points in the first meeting of the three in a week which will see the title decided.

The team from Sevilla was the first to test the keeper in the 8th minute but Keylor Navas kept out Vitolo's shot. A minute later Morata was one-on-one with Sergio Rico but the goalie came out on top. The first goal of the match wasn’t far away and after Asensio was brought down on the edge of the area, Nacho was more alert than anyone and took the free kick quickly, catching everyone by surprise and beating Rico in the Sevilla goal.

Cristiano Ronaldo doubled the lead
The Champions League finalists were already ahead but Sevilla almost drew level in the 20th minute after a shot from Jovetic crashed on to the crossbar. Two minutes later the home side doubled the lead. Asensio stole the ball in the midfield and started a counterattack that James looked to finish, Sergio Rico kept his effort out but Cristiano Ronaldo was on hand to turn home the rebound.

REAL MADRID HAVE SCORED IN 62 CONSECUTIVE GAMES.

Sevilla went on the attack again thanks to Jovetic, but his sublime chipped shot hit the bar in the 32nd minute. The Montenegrin wasn't finished yet however, as just seven minutes later he found himself one-on-one with Keylor Navas, who was reliable as ever, parrying the shot out for a corner.

Jovetic reduces the deficit
The second half started in the worst possible way for the Whites. Jovetic fired a shot in from the edge of the box, reducing the deficit in the 49th minute. The dynamic had changed, but Real Madrid reacted well and Cristiano Ronaldo had a good opportunity to score as he sent in a free kick in the 66th minute, but Sergio Rico managed to keep it out.

The minutes went by quickly as Real Madrid looked to seal the win. Kroos gained possession and got into the area on 78 minutes and touched the ball onto Cristiano Ronaldo, who rocketed a left-footed shot past Sergio Rico. The goal was made even more special as it blasted in off the inside of the post before rippling across the back of the net. It wasn't to be the last goal of the game either, as in the 84th, Nacho marauded forward to lay on a goal for Kroos, who finished with a tidy shot on the outside of his right foot. Two more vital games await the Whites in their quest for LaLiga. The first of these grueling tests comes on Wednesday, as Celta Vigo lie in wait.
