Zidane: “We'll need to put in a great performance to beat Barcelona”

NEWS | 22/04/2017

“We're playing against a great side and we'll need to start the game strongly and give it our all”, added the Real Madrid coach.
Zinedine Zidane appeared in the press room at Real Madrid City on the day prior to his sides' Clásico clash. The Whites' coach had the following to say as he discussed the LaLiga match against Barcelona: “We'll need to put in a great performance to win the game. We're used to these kinds of matches, it's just another game and it's very important for us. There's a lot of fatigue over the course of the season but we're eager to keep moving in the same direction".

“We're playing against a great side and we'll need to start the game strongly and give it our all. Whatever happens, this will not be a decisive clash. We've got seven finals still to play and tomorrow is the first of those. We'll take it game by game because every single one is crucial. There are people who think we're over-confident but that's not the case. We're fully focussed and not looking any further ahead”.

Support of the fans
“We want to do all we can to win it. It'll be a great game of football tomorrow and the whole world will be watching. Barcelona are a fantastic team and they can cause you problems at any moment. We're at home in front of our fans, who always get behind us and they'll be with us tomorrow more than ever”.

Pressure
“I don't think about our opposition, I focus on us. There are three points up for grabs and we're going to give our all to get them. Both fans and players, and everyone involved in the club will be looking to do all they can to win this game. There's always pressure, but it's the pressure of knowing tomorrow is a crucial clash, nothing more. We're very confident in what we're doing”.

I want to see the team put in a good performance; starting strongly, showing intensity and playing at a good pace.

“If we believe that Barcelona's elimination from the Champions League will influence the tie, I think we're wrong. We've got this game and we know we're up against a very good team tomorrow. It'll be decided by small details, that's what will make the difference. We know that, but I want to see the team put in a good performance; starting strongly, showing intensity and playing at a good pace”.

Favourites?
“There are no favourites. We'll have to work hard and fight for it. We're not favourites, whatever people say about one team having the edge over the other. We're going to be very well prepared for this match”.

His first Clásico at the Bernabéu
“Just like the derby, playing against Barcelona is always special, it's something different. There are three points to play for, just like any other match though, and we'll have to manage the game well and do a good job”.

Cristiano Ronaldo's fine form
“Physically and mentally, he's ready for a great performance, just like the rest of his teammates. We always talk about him ahead of the big games, but the energy he gives the group is incredible, it's very important for us. He's an extremely positive guy”.

Bale
“He'll be with us tomorrow and we'll have to wait and see whether or not he plays”.

Praise for Marcelo
“He's a complete player. What I most admire about him is his character; he's very positive and he transmits that positive energy to the group”.

Neymar
“I don't know if he's going to play. That's not my concern, I don't have any power over it. We're up against Barcelona and that's all there is to it”.
