Ramos: "It was very important for us to get the three points that take us back top"

NEWS | 12/03/2017

“My teammates trust me and that drives me to continue”, said Navas.
Sergio Ramos headed home to complete Real Madrid's comeback against Betis and speaking at the final whistle, the captain commented on the significance of having regained top spot: "It was very important for us to get the three points that take us back top. I'm happy with the result, but we must keep on improving. It was a bit of a strange game, in which we performed well in some areas: we pressed high up the pitch, regained possession in their half and played the ball around from one side of the pitch to the other, which is how most of our chances came about".

"Betis defended well, they afforded us little space and the few chances that we managed to create didn't result in goals, which left us having to score a late winner. What matters in this game are the results, but we certainly must play a bit better and give the Real Madrid fans more enjoyment. I'm proud to again have weighed in with another goal from a set piece".

Demands on the goalkeeper
"The Bernabéu is a very difficult stadium to play in. The demands on you are sky high and that makes it difficult. When players make mistakes, they need support. Today was an important match in which top spot was at stake, Keylor is the player who sits behind all of us and he made a superb save at the end to prevent Betis from getting an equaliser. I'm glad he's made up for it and has regained some confidence. Keylor is a top goalkeeper and I believe that he'll hit top form now towards the end of the season".

United front with the supporters
"When you're going through a tough patch you need the fans' support. When everyone inside this stadium gets behind us, there are very few teams who can handle it, it's pretty much like hell and we know just how much faith our supporters have in us. Between the fans and the players we must work together to be an unbeatable team. Between all of us we're going to make sure that this drives us on for us to enjoy another great year".

Marcelo: "We controlled things throughout".

"We’ve not won the league for a long time and we’ve put a lot of our effort, affection and enthusiasm into it. The enthusiasm at the Bernabéu and the history of this badge deserve to see Real Madrid crowned league champions again. We’re in a good position and it’s in our hands. We’ve played a game less, we’re top of the league again and the biggest games to come are here at the Bernabéu".
Keylor: "We are united as a team and they all support me a lot"
"For the Betis goal, I stopped the ball, it was there, and when I tried to collect it, my positioning was not the best and I touched it and unfortunately put it in to the goal. These are situations you don’t want to be in, but one must try to learn from them. There was a long way to go and I knew that I had to continue”.
"We are a close team and they all support me a lot. My teammates trust me and that drives me to continue and to strive to keep working so that these things don’t happen again".
Collision with an opponent
"I try to go for the ball with the head and we collide. At no point do I go for the player. My intention is always to go for the ball. The opponent comes in at the same time and hits me".

His save in the closing stages
"I'm feeling happy right now and am raring to continue working hard. I'm relaxed because I've done a good job, that's the result of me always training and work hard every day. I give my all each time I take to this pitch".

Marcelo: "We fought for every ball until the final whistle"
"It was a tough game but we put in a great performance and were really organised. We conceded a goal but controlled things throughout. The Madrid spirit is all about fighting until the end and we needn't say any more on that. We fought for every ball until the final whistle and managed to get the two goals".

Keylor's save to the rescue
"Your goalkeeper can pull off five saves, but as soon as they let one in, it's as if it's all terrible. Keylor made some great saves and the last one was really key for the team. Whenever any of our teammates score the winner we go over and hug them and when Keylor pulls off a save, it's the same. He helped us to get the three points today".
