His goal against Granada saw the French forward equal Pirri's tally of 172.
Benzema notched the second goal of the game against Granada to place himself eighth on the list of Real Madrid's highest all time goal scorers. The striker now has 172 goals to his name, the same number managed by Pirri between 1964 and 1980. Benzema's goals have been spread over five competitions: La Liga (116), the Champions League (38), the Copa del Rey (14), the Club World Cup (3) and the Spanish Super Cup (1).
The Frenchman equalled Butragueño in the last match of 2016 and this goal against the team from Andalusia sees him go one better. After matching Pirri, the next player on the historic list is Gento (182). The goal is Benzema's eleventh this season, while his figures in previous campaigns are as follows: 2009/10 (9), 2010/11 (26), 2011/12 (32), 2012/13 (20), 2013/14 (24), 2014/15 (22) and 2015/16 (28).
