Benzema eclipses Pirri's goal scoring record

Benzema scored the goal which earned Real Madrid a draw with Sevilla to make him the eighth highest goal scorer in Real Madrid history. This strike sees the French forward reach 173 as a madridista, to eclipse Pirri, who scored 172 times between 1964 and 1980. Benzema's goals have come across five competitions: La Liga (116), the Champions League (38), the Copa del Rey (15), the Club World Cup (3) and the Spanish Super Cup (1).

The goal is Benzema's 12th of the season, while in previous campaigns his statistics are as follows: 2009/10 (9), 2010/11 (26), 2011/12 (32), 2012/13 (20), 2013/14 (24), 2014/15 (22) and 2015/16 (28). Having surpassed Pirri, the next player on the list of all-time top scorers is Gento (182).
