Real Madrid are in to the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey. The Whites extended their unbeaten run to 40 matches, meaning they now hold the record for the longest streak without losing a game in Spanish football history. They will discover their opponents in this Friday's draw at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas, Madrid, following an enthralling last sixteen second leg.

Only ten minutes into the match, Sevilla were already in front. Sarabia sent a cross into the box and Danilo, turned the ball into his own net with his head as he attempted to clear. The local fans were in good voice and the Andalusian outfit began to grow in confidence, but once and again they came up against an impressive rear-guard effort from the visitors.

Visiting chances
The chances then started to come for the madridistas, and with 24 minutes gone, Mariano came close to levelling the scores following a moment of good fortune. Soria rushed from his goal to clear, but the ball came back off the onrushing forward, flying inches past the post. Two dangerous opportunities for Real Madrid then fell to the feet of Kroos, but his efforts from the edge of the box on 32 and 44 minutes, were inches away from finding the net.

Sublime Asensio goal
The second half could hardly have got off to a better start. Barely three minutes after the restart, Asensio treated the crowd to a sumptuous moment of individual skill. He received the ball deep inside his own half, stepped away from two opponents, the second with a perfect touch to set him on his way, before taking the ball into the opposing area and getting the better of Soria in a one-on-one. A sublime goal to all but win the tie.

REAL MADRID HAVE NOW SCORED IN 34 CONSECUTIVE GAMES.

The home side were far from finished and in the 53rd minute went ahead yet again. Escudero crossed in, and Jovetic, with a sublime volley from around the penalty spot, blasted the ball past Casilla. The same two were to feature just ten minutes later, but the madridista goalkeeper proved his mettle to deny the Andalusian outfit’s striker.

The game went back and forth and soon it was Real Madrid’s turn. Danilo made a cut back for Morata to power in a shot from the edge of the box in the 67th minute. Just one minute later, Kroos forced Soria to make a sterling save with a shot from further out but once more it was Sevilla who found the back of the net in the 77th minute thanks to Iborra.

The Whites remain unbeaten
The hosts still needed two goals in order to seal their place in the next round, but the visitors weren’t done fighting. Casemiro was brought down in the box by Kranevitter and the stage was set for Sergio Ramos to neatly convert a Panenka style penalty. Benzema then managed to bring the game level in extra time and ensure that the team’s record continued. The quarter final draw, and their next opponents, lie in wait for the Whites.
