- Round of 32 (First-Leg)
With the score at 0-1, the madridistas went in search of more goals, but Cultural Leonesa had a good chance to equalise. Gallar went through one-on-one with Casilla, who got the better of the local player with 20 minutes gone. The response was immediate, as Kroos struck the crossbar with a volley from the edge of the area just five minutes later.
Asensio widens the gap
That was just a warning from the madridistas and with just over half-an-hour gone, the second goal arrived. Lucas Vázquez lost his marker and pulled the ball back. Asensio did the rest. He took a touch, lifted his head and surprised Palatsi with a well-placed shot at the near post. The players headed into the break at 0-2 but the deficit could have been greater. Morata linked up well with James to get through one-on-one with the hosts' goalkeeper but his effort failed to find the target.
The second half really couldn't have got off to a better start for the European champions, as the Whites regained possession virtually from kick-off and just two passes later found themselves making inroads into the hosts' box. Toni Kroos found James, who slipped the ball through to Morata and the youth-team product sent a left-footed finish between the legs of Palatsia with the second period just 27 seconds old.
First appearance of the season for Coentrão
Real Madrid continued to pour forward and in the space of just two minutes Asensio and Morata had claimed their second goals of the night. The midfielder bagged his second with a fine left-footed strike from the edge of the area, whilst the Whites' forward was left to apply the final touch after a sublime pass from James with the outside of his boot. Three minutes later, Coentrão came on in place of Danilo to make his first appearance this term.
Stunning Nacho strike
The Madrid masterclass wasn't over quite yet and on 68' Nacho produced a truly stunning finish. James shaped in a cross and the defender unleashed a scissor kick from the edge of the box. On 84' Benja netted a consolation, before Mariano completed the rout on 90'. Real Madrid have now won each of their four outings following the international break and attentions will now turn to the LaLiga clash against Alavés in Vitoria.
