Furthermore, this match would be the last played by madridista Raymond Kopa, who after shining for the Whites and winning the Balon d'Or returned to Stade de Reims. The French player's name is shared in the history of the two clubs.

The French team were also guests at the inauguration of the Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano 10 years ago. On the 9th May 2006, Real Madrid won by 6-1 against Stade de Reims, in a match that saw Sergio Ramos open the scoring.
Stade de Reims is an historic team within French football, who were at their most dominant in the 1950s. Their trophy list includes 6 league titles, 2 Coupes de France and 1 Latin Cup.
