The Whites played a friendly in Vancouver in 1961 and another in Toronto in 2009.This will be the first time the Whites visit Montreal but their third time in Canada. The reason behind their last visit was two friendly matches, which both ended 1-5.
First visit
The first took place at the Empire Stadium in Vancouver on the 26th August 1961. They took part in a 23 day and 40.000 kilometre tour of America which also saw the Whites travel to Chile, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Guatemala and the United States, the reports read as follows: “Six nations, six games and six wins’, the Whites were at the time trained by Miguel Muñoz and beat Toronto City, a side which featured 6 players frim the English First Division.
The European Champions will train at Montreal Impact's facilities.
Puskas, Di Stéfano, Gento and Del Sol all scored twice. “In Vancouver we faced a tough rival, but we played well. It was the most complicated match of the tour along with the one in Santiago de Chile against Colo-Colo”, said the madridista coach.
Pepe, Ronaldo and Benzema played in Canada with Real Madrid
The second and last game played by Real Madrid was on 7th August 2009 in Toronto, the most heavily populated city in the country. There, at the BMO Field, the Whites beat Toronto FC thanks to two goals from Raúl and goals from Robben, Cristiano Ronaldo and Benzema. Pepe also played. They are the only players from the current squad who have played a match in Canada as madridistas given that neither Ramos nor Marcelo went on the last trip.
Seventeenth visit to the United States
These pre-season games will be played in the United States, a country that the Whites are visiting for the seventeenth time. The first game will be played against PSG in Colombus (Real Madrid have never visited the state of Ohio), while the other two games will be played against Chelsea in Ann Arbor and Bayern in New Jersey.
