“There are people who should never die, and one of those is Johan Cruyff. My sentiments are with his family and all the Barcelona fans for their loss", said the president.A Real Madrid delegation, headed by the president, Florentino Pérez, travelled to the Ciudad Condal to visit the memorial that F. C. Barcelona have arranged in the Camp Nou to pay tribute to Johan Cruyff, who died last Thursday at 68 years of age. Emilio Butragueño, director of Institutional Relations at the club also attended alongside the president, as did ex-player, Amancio Amaro.
Florentino Pérez honoured a minute's silence before the image of Johan Cruyff which sits at the memorial in the Camp Nou and offered his sympathies to the president of F. C. Barcelona, Josep María Bartomeu, on behalf of Real Madrid, as well as extending his condolences to the azulgrana club.
As he left the memorial, Florentino Pérez said: “These are very sad days. As I always say, there are people who I think should never die, and one of those is Johan Cruyff. Johan Cruyff was born in the same year as me. I have known him throughout his sporting life and some say he changed the history of Barcelona, I believe that he also changed the history of football, not just in Spain but around the world. My sentiments are with his family and all the Barcelona fans for their loss, but he is someone who will live forever”.
