“The competition among the players will help us to continue growing”, he added.
Rafa Benítez expressed his satisfaction following Real Madrid's win over UD Las Palmas. The manager praised his players in the Santiago Bernabéu press room for their strong start to the match: “We played well in the first half, we got off to a sensational start. That kind of early lead subconsciously puts you at ease. We talked about maintaining that intensity and scoring another goal, but that's not how things played out. We weren't able to build on that good start to the first half”.

“With regards to our league position, I have the team where I want them. Inspite of the injuries, the team still have plenty of quality to draw on. A few of the players people were expecting to play haven't come back in time. My hope and belief is that we'll continue to improve because the competition among the players will help us to strengthen”.

Casemiro and the crucial games
“As it's still way too early I'm not going to answer that question. He's playing well. He gives us balance. We'll have to see if he can withstand so many games. That would be a good sign. He gives the team the solidity needed to make the most of our power in attack”.

Depth of the squad
“I've told that players that these are the matches they have to make the most of. I liked seeing Llorente play and do well, and it was great for Borja and Casilla to make their competitive debuts. Jesé, Casemiro, Lucas... They're all making the most of their minutes. They're putting points on the board for us and helping us maintain a competitive level in order for the team to continue getting stronger”.

Jesé is playing and training very well.

“It's positive news that the academy players are being given opportunities. The fact that they're getting playing time is helping us to grow. When the other players start coming back it will become more difficult for them, but the fact that they're there and helping the team continue winning is what matters most”.

Goal conceded
“It was annoying to have conceded that goal, we lacked a bit of intensity during that bit of play to prevent them from scoring. Keeping a cleansheet would have made things easier for us at the beginning of the second half”.

“Winning is always good news. To have done so by playing very well in the first half is a positive thing. Now we have to carry that good form forward. The motivation will be different as it will be a different game in a different competition. I'm hoping we can hang onto that intensity for the duration of the PSG match”.

“Like I said before, the players have to show what we know they're capable of doing on the pitch. Jesé is on that path at the moment and he needs to continue playing similarly. He's playing and training well and that's the key for a player to perform consistently at Real Madrid”.

The Modric substitution and the current status of the injured players
“He had a bit of a problem near his hip and we decided not to take any chances with him. Pepe's back and was part of the squad, and Sergio will be ready for the PSG match. The other players trained today: Benzema, James, Arbeloa, Sergio…

"His fitness is improving but we'll have to make a decision on Monday. From a medical standpoint these players are ready to come back, we'll have to see from a physical standpoint though whether or not they're ready for a competition like the Champions League”.
