Real Madrid's 5th Intercontinental Cup title

Real Madrid closed out an historic season after beating the Brazilian side Bauru in the second game of the final.

The victory in the Intercontinental Cup against Bauru is the result of work carried out over the last few years. "We really value this title because it is very difficult to get to this point", stated Pablo Laso. The ninth Euroleague was the decisive moment in a spectacular season where Madrid were crowned champions of Europe and the world.

Fifth Intercontinental Cup
Despite the defeat in the first game of the final (91-90), Real Madrid came out on top in the second game to win their fifth Intercontinental Cup (1976, 1977, 1978, 1982 and 2015). Accurate outside play from Carroll, Llull and Thompkins, along with Ayón's inside power, enabled Madrid to defeat Bauru (91-79) in the decisive game of the final.

Llull, MVP in the final

Sergio Llull was named MVP in the Intercontinental Cup. The point guard from Menorca notched up an average of 19 points, 6 assists, and 4.5 rebounds in the two games of the final. "We have put Real Madrid where it deserves to be. I think that Jaycee had another fantastic game and would have been very deserving of this prize", stated the Madrid player.

With this award, Llull has obtained his third MVP in just a year after achieving the feat in the Super Cup and in the final of the Endesa League against Barcelona. It was a season that could not be bettered, sealed with his recent contract extension that will see him stay with the Whites until 2021.

With this new title, Real Madrid have closed out their best season of all-time by winning five titles: Euroleague, Intercontinental Cup, League, Copa del Rey and the Endesa Super Cup. It is six titles in the case of Llull, Rudy, Felipe Reyes and Sergio Rodríguez, who also won gold at the EuroBasket 2015 championship.
