NEWS | 15/09/2015 | Antonio M. Leal

"The team has helped me a lot, my teammates have always placed trust in me", he stated.
Cristiano Ronaldo grabbed a hat-trick against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday night to move clear at the top of the Champions League's all-time list of goalscorers. The Portuguese star has now found the net 80 times in the competition, which was introduced in the 1992/93 season. The Real Madrid man is followed in the charts by Lionel Messi (on 77 before the beginning of this year's edition of the tournament).

The forward was interviewed after the game: "We knew that Shakhtar was a good side, but the goalkeeper made an error and Karim took advantage of it. The game ended after the red card. We had more chances, we scored two penalties and I scored the third goal. However, we know that is not the real Shakhtar Donetsk and it will be more difficult at their stadium and harder to beat them. It was a good night for us, with four goals and it has been a good start to the Champions League, so we are happy".

Goals
"I worked hard as always. I feel proud and happy with this period of form, but that is not my objective. My objective is at the end of the season, winning titles for the team, such as the Champions League or La Liga. The team have helped me a lot, my teammates have always placed trust in me".

The team's play
"This is only the beginning. La Liga and the Champions League are very long and it is very early to say if we are impressive or if we are bad. We have to work hard, focus, be consistent and then we will see what happens at the end of the season."

His statistics in the Champions League
Cristiano has scored 65 goals for Real Madrid and 15 for Manchester United in the Champions League, and has taken 116 games (64 for the Whites and 52 for the Premier League side) to reach this tally. What's more, his treble against Shakhtar was his third for Madrid in Europe's elite club competition, having also hit hat-tricks against Ajax (2012/13) and Galatasaray (2013/14).
