Asensio and Borja Mayoral make first-team debuts

NEWS | 04/08/2015

"I'm happy, playing for Real Madrid is a dream come true", explained Asensio.
Marco Asensio and Borja Mayoral were handed their debuts for the Real Madrid first team in the Whites' Audi Cup semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur. Midfielder Asensio was introduced in place of Isco in the 67th minute, while striker Mayoral came on for Gareth Bale in the 81st.

Speaking post-match, Asensio spoke of his delight: "I'm very happy, making my debut for Real Madrid is a dream come true; everyone has congratulated me. I felt good, a little bit tired, but as we train and play matches I'll get up to competitive speed".

"It's a source of pride that so many teams are interested in a loan deal, but right now I'm focused on Madrid and we'll see what happens. I've spoken to the coach and he told me to be calm, to focus on training well and then everything will be decided soon enough. I've come to Real Madrid to stay, I'm not looking beyond that".

"Bit by bit I'm getting to know my team-mates; I'm learning a lot from them and I hope to learn a lot more. On the pitch I'm just another of the lads, I'm a bold player and I hope that I keep on being treated as well as I have. There are lots of players who play at number 10, but I'm a versatile player who can also play up front or out wide. I have to carry on like this so that things continue to go well".
