The Whites beat Levski 0-1 in the first round of the 1979/80 European Cup.
Real Madrid return to Sofia for the first time in 35 years to take on Ludogorets. The Whites have only come up against Bulgarian opposition in European competition once before, when they faced Levski Sofia in the 1979/80 season. Their only ever visit to the capital of Bulgaria came on 19 September 1979.

The team, then coached by Boskov, secured a 0-1 win in their opening match of that year's European Cup campaign, with Roberto Martínez scoring the goal. The return leg of the tie ended in a 2-0 triumph at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Ancelotti's previous visits
Ancelotti has already visited Sofia during the course of his coaching career, gaining a 1-3 victory over Levski Sofia with Juventus in the 1999/00 UEFA Cup. As a player, his only trip to the Bulgarian capital brought a 0-1 Roma win against CSKA in the 1983/84 European Cup.

Bale goal in Sofia
Gareth Bale already knows what it feels like to score at the Vasil Levski Stadium. The Real Madrid man found the net there for Wales in a Euro 2012 qualifier in October 2011, his goal handing his country a 0-1 win over Bulgaria.
