Ancelotti: “In the first half we played to a high level, in the second we gave them chances"

“James played well, and was one of the best", added the Real Madrid coach.

Carlo Ancelotti analysed the second leg of the Supercopa de España in the press room of the Vicente Calderón: "In the first half we played to a high level, but in the second we gave Atlético more chances. We lost control of play, with a lot of long balls. It was difficult for us and for that I made changes. I changed the positions of the three central midfielders".

"We can consider that with this game last season finished. Last season Madrid won three titles. In this match we didn't play well, but if you have to lose I would prefer this than Lisbon".

James's contribution
“He played very well and was the side's most dangerous player. In the second half, when Cristiano came on, he was more withdrawn and tired and for this I took him off. Cristiano Ronaldo could've played the 90 minutes, but I thought about bringing him on just for the second half".

It will be a difficult season, but we are up for it and want to do well.

"The new season is going to be interesting for us. We have a side full of quality and we are going to try and do what we did last year. None of us have spoken about winning six titles. We will try and win all the titles we can. Now we start a new season and are looking forward to it. There are every competitive sides to come, like Atético and Barcelona".

The absences of Di Maria and Khedira
“ Di María's absence is a technical decision, we didn't need him today. Khedira had permission, I gave him permission. When a player is free I'm not interested in his whereabouts".
