Víctor came through the ranks of the Real Madrid academy before making his first-team debut in May 1996, in a clash with Zaragoza at La Romareda, for the team led by Arsenio Iglesias. The following season, he was in Fabio Capello's squad from the start, and was one of the standout performers on the way to the LaLiga title. The team's first-choice right winger, he played 41 of the 48 games that season.

He was also heavily involved in the 1997/98 campaign, this time with Jupp Heynckes in the dugout. That historic season began with victory over Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup. Víctor played in the second-leg win at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The seventh European Cup made that year a special one in the club's history and the midfielder made seven appearances on the way to the unforgettable final in Amsterdam. Indeed, he chose the continental competition to score one of his nine madridista goals, netting against Olympiacos at the Bernabéu. After winning the Champions League, he left for Racing and enjoyed an impressive Primera División career (over 300 appearances) for Deportivo de La Coruña. He was also a full Spanish international.
