Catering for the elderly and promoting active ageing is the overriding objective of the physical activity programme for the over 65s. The programme seeks to maintain the physical capabilities of the over 65s, as well as improving the social skills and motivation of a growing group within our society that requires constant attention in various areas of their daily lives.
The coaches who run the programme administer fitness tests at the beginning and end of the season to monitor participants’ progress. The main aim of this is to showcase the progress made during the course of the season and evidence has shown that considerable progress is witnessed. The activities are complemented by health prevention talks that are held throughout the season and are greatly valued by the participants.
