DESCRIPCION
The Real Madrid Foundation’s socio-sporting school in Kenya is located in the city of Lamu, on an island of the same name just off the North-East coast of Kenya, 80km from Somalia. The settlement is marked by scarce resources for education and public health which has led to high levels of illiteracy and a high infant mortality rate.
It’s in this context that the NGO Anidan, partner of the Real Madrid Foundation, has developed a training programme at the shelter founded by the organisation in 2002 with a view to promoting education and training for young orphans or children of young women who have been outcast. These boys and girls receive healthcare at the Pablo Horstmann Paediatric Hospital which was founded by Anidan and the Pablo Horstmann Foundation in 2008 to provide high-quality, free healthcare to the infant population in Lamu.
The socio-sporting school forms part of this large social project that contributes to improving the children’s physical and mental health and serves as an effective way to promote social integration. The beneficiaries and boys and girls both from the Anidan Shelter and from surrounding villages who are interested in sport and are living in deprived conditions. Aside from the sports sessions, they will receive extra-curricular classes, an annual medical check-up and general care.
