It's been 20 years since Real Madrid won their 29th basketball Liga title. It's a title that will always be remembered by madridistas because of how it was achieved. On 26 June 2005, the Whites beat Baskonia in Vitoria in the fifth game of the final. This gave them the title with an overall score of 3-2, thanks to a historic comeback that was capped off by Herreros with a three-pointer to win 69-70.

When all seemed lost at 69-61 with 50 seconds to go, Real Madrid pulled off a miracle. A three-pointer by Gelabale (69-64), Scola missed the next Vitoria attack, and Hamilton made it 69-66. The home team lost the ball with 17 seconds left and fouled Sonko, who missed the first free throw but made the second (69-67). With 14 seconds left, Baskonia lost possession again on the inbound pass and Real Madrid regained the ball. Hamilton drove to the basket and assisted Herreros, who scored a legendary three-pointer from the corner to make it 69-70 with six seconds left. Baskonia missed the last attack, and los blancos completed one of the most spectacular comebacks in the history of the Liga.

That team was coached by Maljkovic and finished second in the regular season, while in the playoffs they eliminated Joventut (quarter-finals) and Estudiantes (semi-finals) before reaching the final against Baskonia.
