Real Madrid now know who they will come up against in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals following the draw which took place in the Christine Ruiz-Picasso Auditorium at the Picasso Museum in Malaga. Chus Mateo's side will take on UCAM Murcia on Thursday, 15 February at 6pm at the Martín Carpena. If they qualify for the semi-finals, they will play the winner of the match between Gran Canaria and Valencia Basket on Saturday, 17 February at 6pm. The final will be played on Sunday, 18 February, at 6:30 pm. All matches will be broadcast on Movistar Plus.
It will be the first time that the two teams will face each other in the Copa del Rey. This is only UCAM Murcia's second appearance in the tournament after the 2021/22 season, when they reached the semi-finals. In the present campaign, the two sides have played each other twice in the league, with a win each: 106-92 at the WiZink Center and 73-61 in Murcia.
Herreros: "It will be a very demanding cup"
The Real Madrid technical director commented on the draw: "Every team that you face will be difficult. This is the Copa del Rey and it's a one-off game. It's one of the most demanding competitions, because you have to win three games in three days. We have to go into the game in the best possible shape, having as many players as possible back, and ready to try and win it".
"We have to just focus on the first game and from then on, if we win, we can think about the next one. We'll have to be very focused and well prepared because it's going to be a very demanding tournament. Málaga is a city that has always been very kind to Real Madrid. It's all set to be one of the best editions of the Copa del Rey. The standard of the teams is impressive".
