Real Madrid close the first half of the league season this afternoon against Río Breogán at the WiZink Center. The Whites will be defending their top spot at the halfway point of the competition against an opponent that still has a chance of qualifying for the Copa del Rey. With the basket average in favour of Barcelona +13 and Baskonia +47 before the start of the game, it is up to us to finish as leaders.

In the league, Madrid have won eight of their last nine games. Today they return to the Palacio after four outings between the two competitions, to host a Río Breogán side in tenth place 8-8, who are having a very creditable season after a thorough sqaud overhaul. On the last matchday away to Unicaja, they saw a streak of two consecutive victories cut short, but they still have a chance of making it into the group of eight teams that will play in the Cup.

Mrsic's team is now without Musa, who has joined our ranks, as well as Bell-Hayes and Kalinoski, among others. They now have two clear points of reference: shooting guard Bamforth and centre Happ. The latter is the second best rebounder in the league 7.4. Chus Mateo's team is the highest rated team in the competition 106.3 per game, which reflects their strength as a team. Cornelie 9.7 and Musa 9.4 lead the league in +/-. Los Madridistas will have to get the most from their offence, which is averaging almost 88 points 87.4, 11.2 more than Rio Breogan. It is their best tally over the last four seasons since 2018-19, when they averaged 88.1.

Final Stretch of the First Month of the Year
Following this game, the Whites have two more to close the month: we host Barcelona in the Euroleague Clasico Thursday 26th at 8.45 pm CET and three days later we will visit Baxi Manresa Sunday 29th at 12:30 pm CET. In terms of head-to-head meetings, Madrid have won the last three against the team from Lugo.
