REPORT | 14/11/2017 | Nacho DíazThe Whites succumbed to Baskonia's great shooting accuracy and were powerless in defeat.
- Matchday 7
Madrid succumbed to a Baskonia juggernaut right from the off. The hosts made no mistake and every one of their shots found the basket (with only two missed treys in 10 minutes), whilst the Whites were unable to claim any rebounds and post any points (going five minutes without scoring), in part because of the stifling pressure from the Vitoria-based outfit. Laso tried to look for a solution by fielding a quintet of shooters, and although this brought some hope in offense, Baskonia got back on the front foot (36-17).
The Whites looked to reduce the arrears from the three-point line. The lethal Rudy (9 points, three triples) and Doncic (14 points in the first half) sought to bring Madrid back on course. However, Beaubois, Huertas, Janning and Shengelia, it didn't really matter which members of the hosts' roster was shooting, punished the guests on both the inside and outside (64-44).
Little to report
There was little more to report on in the second 20 minutes. Madrid's pride saw them keep plugging away, but Baskonia remained lethal in offense and maintained leads of over 20 points throughout both stanzas. Randolph was replaced in the third quarter with a foot injury. Tavares, making his EuroLeague debut, enjoyed some good minutes and recorded double digits (10 points, seven rebounds and a PIR of 18) as the game ended 105-75.
