The three socio-sporting school run by the Real Madrid Foundation in collaboration with the Cruzada por los Niños Foundation are located in the Maputo province; two are situated in the Boane district, in the small town of Massaca and the other in a deprived Mafalala neighbourhood of the city.
The Real Madrid Foundation began its activities with the Casa do Gaiato school through an agreement between the organisation of the same name and our partner, Cruzada por los Niños. Casa do Gaiato began their work in 1991 to care for orphaned or abandoned children after the civil war of 1977-1992. The beneficiaries of the socio-sporting school are children and young people taken into the centre who were abandoned or outcast by their families. They are often orphaned due to AIDS or other illnesses or come from families with no resources. As well as the sporting activities, the children are provided with a snack after each training session and an annual medical check-up. They also receive extra-curricular classes and participate in workshops dealing with health and hygiene.
The last school to join the project was one founded by the Real Madrid Foundation and Cruzada por los Niños, along with their local partner, Joao Chissano. The socio-sporting school is located in the deprived Mafalala neighbourhood of the capital. The beneficiaries are local children who as well as the sporting activities receive nutritional support.
