54 years have passed since Real Madrid's 12th Copa de España basketball trophy was won. On 23 April 1970, the Whites were crowned champions after edging Joventut in the final in León (102-90). After beating Estudiantes in the quarter-finals and SD Kas in the semi-finals, Real Madrid conquered the trophy three years after their previous title in this competition.

In that final against Joventut, Luyk and Cabrera were the standout performers for Real Madrid with more than 20 points each. After an even first half (47-40), Pedro Ferrándiz's team preserved their lead and ushered in one of Real Madrid's most glittering eras in the Copa de España (six consecutive trophies).
