The Realmadrid Foundation and the Fundacion Carlos F. Novella have signed a collaboration agreement to open a social and sports academy in Guatemala for 1,200 children. The act was attended by Frederick Melville, founding member of the Fundacion Carlos F Novella and President of the Grupo Progreso, and Enrique Sanchez, Executive Vice President of the Realmadrid Foundation. Also attending were Guatemalan Ambassador to Spain Ana Maria Dieguez and Spanish Ambassador to Guatemala Manuel Mª Lejarreta Lobo.
This will be a pioneering project in the country and will constitute a formation space for children aged between six and 17 years old, trying to help them avoid taking part in, or being victims of, delinquency. The academy will be located in the sports facilities of the Fundacion Carlos F. Novella at the Cementos Progreso Stadium.
Frederick Melville
"This alliance with the best sports club in the world will give thousands of children from Guatemala a space to carry out sports, psychological and physical activities, to exercise their minds and bodies in a healthy and secure space. The spirit of Real Madrid will be a wonderful incentive to help them get out of poverty and better themselves through integral education based on values. This is a very ambitious project and we have the best possible partner to carry it out."
