The Real Madrid Foundation, in collaboration with the Community of Madrid, introduced the No child without a toy at Christmas initiative. The event took place in the press room at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, where Florentino Pérez and football and basketball first team players Pepe, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaká, Llull and Rudy Fernández were present. The Real Madrid president said: "The whole legend of this club is to not only channel efforts into sporting objectives. The power of sport puts Real Madrid in a strategic position to try to make the world less unjust and more united. Whatever happens, this club will always be loyal to their commitment to those less fortunate, especially children. Now, more than ever, we must put all our efforts into making sure that this Christmas no child is left without a toy".
Florentino Pérez recounted the Foundation’s aims with regards to those less fortunate: "Real Madrid has a principle of never giving up, no matter how difficult it may be to overcome challenges. Now we are making a joint effort to get more than 2,000 toys to children going through really difficult situations in their lives. I know the supporters at our club want the best performance from our players, but I also want them to be united in this aim. I want to remember the more than 30,000 children supported by the Realmadrid Foundation. This also is the very soul of our club, providing us with the opportunity to bring excitement and hope anywhere in the world".
Emilio Butragueño, Director of Institutional Relations, opened a ceremony in which Ignacio González, President of the Community of Madrid also spoke: "I thank the Realmadrid Foundation for its efforts and collaboration as always with social initiatives in our community. Again, the best club in Spain has used its image, power and reach for the good of those who need it most". To finish, the children received gifts from the hands of their idols.
