Today is Xabi Alonso’s 31st birthday. The midfielder signed for Real Madrid in the 2009-10 season, becoming a key player from the very start. He was trusted with play making and with bringing solidity to the midfield. With Madrid he has won one League, a Cup and a Spanish Supercup.
Xabi Alonso was born on 25 November 1981 in Tolosa (Guipúzcoa) and made his First Division debut with Real Sociedad at the age of 19. After spending five seasons with Liverpool, where he won the Champions League, he joined Real Madrid. His debut for the Whites came on 29 August 2009 against Deportivo de la Coruña, and he scored his first goal for Madrid in a competitive match on 21 February 2010, in the Santiago Bernabéu, against Villarreal.
Since his arrival he has played in 164 competitive matches, and has scored six goals. He has played 19 matches so far this season, missing just one league match because of suspension, and the away leg of the cup tie against Alcoyano.
