José Mourinho appeared before the communications media in the Real Madrid City press room the day before the clash with Celta in the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. The white team’s coach talked about the clash and analyzed the Galician team: “We need to win against Celta because we can’t lose any points. The game will be complicated because we’ll be facing a good opponent and a team with good players, good organization, and I like how they play a lot. They also have a coach with a very good personality to make that kind of football real. They only play to win. They’ve spent two weeks preparing this game and they’ve all got their heads into this game, because only Park has been with his national team.”

Real Madrid’s coach was clear when expressing the way his team will face the clash: “My players arrived on Wednesday and both that day and Thursday were for recuperation. We respect the recuperation periods, and we’re scheduled to have two days like that after the games. We’ve only let people recuperate and I hope that we can respond tomorrow, because we can’t lose any points and we’ve got to win this game. We need to win.”

In reference to the injuries suffered by his team in different international commitments, he revealed: “I always try to find solutions for any problems, but it is hard to accept the situation. We played the last game before the national team games with everybody in tip-top shape, without any problem, and in perfect shape to go onto their national teams. Then you start to lose players, and it still wouldn’t be a big surprise to lose some other player in the coming days. If we have another injury tomorrow or Wednesday or after the game against Mallorca, it won’t be a surprise. Marcelo’s injury doesn’t have a history, since it could have happened here or there, and muscular injuries have their history, but we try to do our job as best as possible, and if they’re injured, well then they’re injured.”

Asked about the options for covering the absences from his team, Mourinho confessed: “When the national team games ended, I already had in mind who was going to play. I decided quickly. We have options, and people, without being pure wings, have to adapt. They aren’t quick recuperations, and they’re out for a long time. I don’t believe thinking about it is the right way to face up to the game and we shouldn’t dramatize the situation. They’ve already been injured and nothing can be done about it, so the best thing is just to drop the subject. I’ve thought about Nacho and others to replace them.”

In regard to the supposed video that Barcelona taped about Pepe, the Portuguese coach said: “I don’t know anything about that video. What I know is that while Pepe hadn’t renewed his contract with Real Madrid, there were a couple of months until the problem was solved; a couple of clubs pressured him and his agent to not renew with Real Madrid. I don’t know if those big clubs have made videos of Pepe.”

The Portuguese coach was also asked about Higuaín, another member of his team: “He knows that with me, and in spite of the fact that forwards live for the goals, there are other aspects that are important. It’s really complicated for a player to come off the bench and get into the dynamics of the game. They all have to go through intense defensive and offensive transitions and I took him off the bench at Camp Nou to stimulate him. He has to take that in stride, and when Higuaín’s on the filed, the goal will come. I’m relaxed about him and about Benzema.”

Mourinho also talked about the Ballon D’Or: “I think it’s time to stop all that about the Ballon D'Or. There’s been enough and I’ve given my opinion about it. I have a right to it, but not to vote. If some day they decide that those who have won the Ballon D’Or have a right to vote, I will accept it with satisfaction. I will respect the decision 1000%, because my opinion is clear and explicit. I don’t have anything more to say and I’m going to abide by my intention to respect the people who vote and the winner. It’s for sure that somebody clumsy isn’t going to win it, and the one who wins will be a great player.”

Asked for a comparison between his team’s game and Barcelona’s, the white team’s coach said: “They can’t be compared because they’re two different teams with very few points of comparison. Madrid and Borussia have comparable aspects and game principles. The same as Barcelona and Arsenal. But Real Madrid and Barcelona have two different game philosophies that can’t be compared.”

Finally, about Falcao, he commented that: “Simeone and Pékerman have to be the ones to talk about Falcao. Everybody tells me good things about him and they say that, as a person, he’s great. I like good people in football. Simeone and Pékerman are his coaches, and I don’t want to say anything else.”
