Real Madrid have now played seven first division fixtures in the national league championship this year and Xabi Alonso is one of the players who has played the most minutes for the team in white. He is one of the team’s lynchpins in midfield and is proving his ability to be creative and distribute the ball as well as to win it back. It is in the second aspect that he has been outstanding during the start to the season as the midfield player who robs possession of the ball most often in the league championship.
The Real centre-half has managed to regain possession 79 times over the last seven league games, which works out as an average of more than 11 recoveries per match. He has played six full games out of seven, coming off the bench only once, on day six, in the 58th minute. On the second and fourth day of the league, against Getafe and Seville, he achieved his best stats, recovering possession 15 times in each game.
