Cristiano Ronaldo played his hundredth match with the Portuguese national team, against Northern Ireland. The Real Madrid forward is ever closer to the absolute record held by Luis Figo of 127 international matches with the Portuguese team. In these hundred matches, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 37 goals, and he is the third player to score as many with Portugal.
Cristiano Ronaldo debuted with Portugal on August 20, 2003, at the age of 18. He won that first game against Kazakhstan 1-0; at the time, the coach of the Portuguese team was Scolari. The forward is making history with his national team, and he is the third player in terms of most matches played and most goals scored. Figo and Fernando Couto are ahead of him in number of matches played, with 127 and 110 matches respectively, while in the list of scorers he is only superseded by Pauleta (47) and Eusebio (41).
