After the first eight competitive matches this season (five in la Liga, two in the Supercup and one in the Champions League), there is only one outfield player who has been on the pitch for every minute: Xabi Alonso. Alonso and Iker Casillas have both played 756 minutes and until now have been ever-present in José Mourinho’s team. The coach has used nineteen players from the first team squad. Cristiano Ronaldo (728), Arbeloa (727) and Sergio Ramos (662) are the players who have sent the next longest time on the pitch.
At the start of his fourth season with the club Alonso is still one of the most important members of the squad. He is vital when it comes to providing balance and organizing the team. He has played every minute in official competitions until now, including league matches, the Champions League and the Spanish Supercup. Cristiano Ronaldo who has only missed the last minutes of the match against Granada is the outfield player who has played the second most minutes, while Arbeloa and Sergio Ramos are following closely.
José Mourinho has repeatedly underlined the importance of the whole squad in order to compete in all competitions. As a result he has already used nineteen players, all of whom, except Morata, have started in the first eleven on at least one occasion. Only the goalkeepers Adán and Jesús, and Kaká, Carvalho and Nacho have not been in the first eleven this season in a competitive fixture.
