Despite not being part of the opening line-up, Ángel di María was one of the stars of the first leg clash of the Spanish Super Cup. The Argentinian took the pitch in the second half, going on for Callejón, and was responsible for making the score 3-2, leaving the title up in the air until the match in the Bernabéu: “It isn't a good score for us, but we're not concerned. We'll be playing as the home side with our supporters and we'll try to do as well as possible”.
With only five minutes until the end of the match, Di María once again demonstrated his great ability, pressuring Valdés, stealing the ball from him and scoring Real Madrid's second goal. The Argentinian midfielder evaluated the progression of the match afterwards: “We knew what we were going up against, Barcelona always plays the same way, and we wanted to play as we have been in our last matches in the Camp Nou. I think we did really well. We stood up to them until the end”.
