Iker Casillas assessed the opening match of the league against Valencia in which Real Madrid were unable to win their first victory. The Madrid goalkeeper regretted that the team was unable to make the opportunities they had in the second half count: “We deserved much more due to the opportunities we created. We got into the box and had more opportunities to score in the second half”.
For the Madrid captain the key moments of the match were played by the Valencia defence: "They were very good and we must point out that Alves and his defence have closed down very well”. After the draw, Casillas ensured that it is too early to draw conclusions: “We don’t need to assess things now because we’ve drawn today or if we had won, the teams are still only just warming up until a month has passed”.
For the Valencia goal, Casillas and Pepe clashed, which caused the Portuguese central defender to be substituted: “I’m ok. The last minutes of the first half were hard, but later I was ok. Pepe took the brunt of it, and he’ll spend the night in hospital. We hope he gets better soon because a knock to the head always causes tension”.
After the first league match, Real Madrid begins to prepare for the first leg of the Spanish Supercup against Barcelona: “Now we have to prepare for an exciting title. As with last year, we play against Barcelona. It will be a beautiful, exciting match, in which two teams that play football and create goals go head to head. We are going there with the idea of winning”, he stated.
