José Mourinho appeared in the press office of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium for the first time in the current season. Barely 24 hours since his league debut , the Portuguese trainer , who confessed that “Higuain and Benzema are going to play”, spoke of the match against Valencia in the white territory and of the intention of his team to defend the title so brilliantly won by the team last season: “We are not looking to break records , we want to be the champions. That is the objective. Each season is different and the most important thing is to always have ambitions. If the previous season was victorious you want to repeat that and if you didn´t have great moments you want to go for them.The feelings are always the same before starting and I want to get started right away – that´s why we have been working all these weeks. Being the champion is being the champion and we are aiming at that regardless of whether more or less points are required”.

A new season is officially underway. And Real Madrid is prepared to fight for all the disputed titles. At least , that is what the Portuguese trainer has explained clearly: “The team has reached an important level , the best team in Europe last season. It has won the most difficult league with unequalled stats and an unsurpassed game quality. In Europe we reached semifinals and that meant fighting to the end for the title. We are the same people , we know each other well and we are going to try to maintain the quality of the game , the team spirit and the level of ambition. Given all of that we will be candidates to win all the competitions we play in and play to win every time".

With regard to the physical level of the team he will be faced by on the first match of the season, Mourinho commented: “We had a fortnight to prepare the players and the team for the season.We have worked hard to improve the sporting fitness, which is collective and we have tried to prepare the team as best as possible in order to be ready for important games, such as against Valencia. They have had more time than we have, but we are not looking for excuses or comparisons. We have prepared ourselves as best as possible and the players in the selections have returned home without problems. We have the full team ready to try to win tomorrow".

The Madrid trainer analyzed tomorrow´s rival , a renewed Valencia with Pellegrino on the bench : “Emery did a great job and the objective of playing in the Champions League has been successfully fulfilled and it seems to me that our numbers are extraordinary. I know him because we worked together in Barcelona and I have known him personally since 98. I have very positive memories of him as a serious and professional player , who worked as part of a team and who made an effort to ask about and understand things. His tendency , as opposed to the average player, was to progress in the understanding of the game and its training. After that we coincided on more occasions and I wish him a good career as a trainer and hopefully he will have a disastrous start tomorrow”.

Regarding his personal motivations after having won the three most important leagues in the world , the Real Madrid trainer was clear : “It is going to be difficult to be here as long as Fergusson because I would have to be here until I was 79 years old. We have signed up for four years and when we signed we did so intending to fulfill our obligations and not to sign up intending to leave after three months.My intentions are double : to continue winning titles and to continue playing football with a unique identity which, in our opinion, is fantastic”.

Mourinho was complimentary about the work of Benzema and the extraordinary forward pair he makes with his team-mate Higuain : “Benzema knew how to have that mental strength and showed that he could come through that difficult moment.Step by step his situation has improved and he has always been very objective and direct about his decision to triumph in Real Madrid and to carry on there.Time has showed that he was right so that his self-confidence allowed him to work in moments that were not easy.Both he and Higuain must know what we think of them.They are among the best forwards in the world, we love them and we really need them.They are as well-loved by the club as by the supporters.It is important that they understand that the interests of the club take precedence over the interests of individuals and they need to know that this is Real Madrid and this team must have two forwards of their level”.

The Portuguese also spoke about the market of the possible signings-on and signings-off that his team could have until the end of the signing-on season: “We have given a provisional list because everything is up for grabs and the the definitive list will come out at the end of the season.The market is wide open for signings on and off. It is completely possible that somebody will come in and somebody will leave.Today that is not what matters.What is important is that we have a match tomorrow and we have a very good team.No player who could leave is a problem if he stays and no player who could come in is a problem if he doesn´t arrive.We are all on the ground here and focussed on Valencia , not as to whether somebody could arrive or leave”.

Sahin and Carvalho were the other two names about whom the Portuguese was questioned in the press room.”The most important thing is that everybody is happy , content and convinced of what they are going to obtain. He has had a very complicated season during one phase on account of endless injuries and thereafter because the team was already consolidated , played well , was winning and the players in his position responded really well. For his own self-worth and recuperation of his self-confidence and for Real Madrid, who would never sell him and if he leaves it will be as a loan and with the option of return, it is important that he plays and proves it”, he said about the former. De Carvalho commented: “With him there are no problems or doubts.We have made that decision because I have known him since he was a child and he was not born to be a replacement. He is too good and with too much self-worth to be a replacement. The best solution for the end of his career is to find a club in an important league and that we try to find a club in an important league and we are trying to find a good solution for him and for us.If we reach the end of August and there is no conclusion he will be our player and we will be delighted with that".

Finally , with regard to Barcelona, he stated : “I have no interest in speaking about the opponents unless it is the final match , given that I have to make my analysis and to live out as far as possible their reality.With regard to opponents in general , I don´t have much interest”.
