Di María: “I feel very supported and loved by the club and the fans”
“A large part of what I'm doing in Real Madrid is thanks to Mourinho and I'm repaying him with the work I do everyday”, said the Argentinian player about his coach

Ángel di María is a happy man. Just as his teammates Arbeloa and Albiol have done this preseason, he has extended his contract with Real Madrid and is impatient to repay the faith shown in him by the club and the fans with work and titles: “I'm fulfilling a dream that I had as a boy. I'm very happy here and the extension of my contract gives me the possibility to continue with Real Madrid for many years in order to continue improving. When I arrived I was told that it wasn't going to be easy to win over the Bernabéu but, thank God, with the work and sacrifice of every day and every match I earned that affection. I'm really happy with them. I feel very supported and loved by the club and the fans”.
Firstly, let me congratulate you on the extension of your contract, which has you with Real Madrid until 2018.
I'm really pleased and very happy with the extension, which is going to allow me to continue with Real Madrid for longer. They really keep me in mind and that makes me happy.
It's perhaps the club's support for all that you offer the team. How do you feel?
I'm really pleased because I know that the club extended my contract because of the work I'm doing. I feel very supported and loved by the club and the fans.
You have just begun your third season here and precisely in this time the fans have shown you their support.
Little by little I've earned the confidence of our fans. When I arrived I was told that it wasn't going to be easy to win over the Bernabéu but, thank God, with the work and sacrifice of every day and every match I earned that affection. I'm really happy with them.
Your time in Real Madrid coincides with that of the coach. What has been José Mourinho's influence on Ángel di María?
His influence is very big. He asked the club for me to be here when I was at the World Cup and things weren't going well for me. A large part of what I'm doing now is thanks to him. I'm repaying him with the work I do everyday.
How has the Di María who came from Benfica changed to the one we now see in Real Madrid?
I've really changed a lot in all manner of ways. In terms of football, and thanks to the work of Mourinho, I've improved considerably. I've also improved personally. Playing in Real Madrid is something very important. I'm fulfilling a dream that I had as a boy. I'm very happy here and the extension of my contract gives me the possibility to continue with Real Madrid for many years in order to continue improving.
What do you expect from your third season in the club?
To continue working in the same way and running in the same way in order to try to help the team and go on improving. I hope I can keep learning more each day. I'm still young and I think I can learn a lot and gain experience.
How about collectively, what are the team's objectives?
It's working really well and each match we're giving it our all. We lost to Benfica, but these things happen during the preseason. It was tough, but we're not worried. We're on the right path. Hopefully things will go well for us so that the team continues to feel confident.
In your first season you won the Copa del Rey and in the second the Liga. This campaign is it time for the European Cup?
I hope so, but let's hope that it's not only the year we win the Champions League. Right from the start we're conscious that we're out to win everything and that we're going to fight to win all the titles, which is what Real Madrid must do year after year.
Once again you're coming up against Barcelona for the Spanish Super Cup.
Last year we faced them various times and we know that we have all the chances in the world to beat them. In addition, it's all going to happen in our first match back in the Santiago Bernabéu, and that's very important for us.
Lastly, what message would you send out to the fans?
I'd ask them to continue supporting us all they can because we're out to win the Champions League, the Liga and the Copa del Rey. I'd thank them for making us so happy match after match.
